Zoom Technologies
Ships Four New ADSL Modems, Including Innovative Residential
Gateways
Products Targeted to Retail and
Internet Service Provider Markets
Boston, MA, January 16, 2003, - Zoom Telephonics, Inc.
(NASDAQ: ZOOM)
announced today that it has begun shipping four new ADSL modems
designed for easy installation by consumers.
The new products include two residential gateways that combine
an ADSL modem with an integrated local area network router.
The residential gateways allow a high-speed ADSL connection
to be shared by up to 253 computers on a network, and provide
firewall security to protect the attached computers from hackers.
The Zoom ADSL X3 Model 5560 includes an Ethernet port for
connection to a computer, hub, or wireless access point. The
Zoom ADSL X4 Model 5551 adds a USB port for connection to
a computer's USB port, and allows the USB port and Ethernet
port to be active concurrently. Setup for the gateway/router
features in both the X3 and X4 is easily done using a Web
browser and Zoom's intuitive graphical user interface, facilitating
setup by an end-user, a network administrator, or an Internet
Service Provider. In addition to the
residential gateways, Zoom is now shipping a PCI internal
ADSL modem and a USB external ADSL modem for Windows computers.
The four products are available as retail
products, and feature self-install software and attractive
four-color packaging. In most cases, the self-install software
eliminates the need for a site visit by an ADSL service provider.
The first shipments of all four products have been made to
Dixon's Store Group, a leading computer retailer in the UK.
The USB model is also available in a self-mailer
designed to fit through a mail slot, so that an Internet Service
Provider can provide reliable and inexpensive shipment of
a unit to a residential customer. The PCI model is also available
bulk-packed for use by computer manufacturers and system integrators.
The Zoom ADSL USB Model 5510A modem connects
to the USB port of Windows computers for easy installation
and setup. The Model 5510A features a compact, space-saving
case, and is powered by the USB port to eliminate the clutter
created by power adapters. The Model 5510A also has a Point-to-Point
protocol stack that runs on the modem to improve system stability.
The ADSL PCI Model 5506 modem is a space-saving
internal modem that plugs into the PCI slot of a Windows computer.
All of the new Zoom ADSL products support
full-rate Annex A data transmission, with data downloads at
up to 8 Mbps speeds. Multi-lingual documentation is in English,
French, Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and Danish.
All Zoom ADSL models are backed by a two year warranty, European
and U.S. multi-lingual support teams, and Zoom's twenty-five
years of experience manufacturing communication products for
the small office and home office. For
