Zoom Telephonics Announces Distribution in Israel
Zoom signs contract with Bezeq-Bit,
wholly owned subsidiary of the Israeli telecom company
Boston, MA, January 25, 1996 - Zoom Telephonics, Inc.,
a high-volume manufacturer of faxmodem products, today announced
that it has entered into a distribution contract with a wholly
owned subsidiary of Bezeq - the Israel Telecommunication Corp.
Ltd. - which is government-owned, and one of the largest companies
in Israel. Bezeq-Bit Limited, the marketing arm of Bezeq,
will distribute and support Zoom faxmodems in Israel and Bezeq-Bit
will source these product categories exclusively from Zoom.
Bezeq-Bit markets Customer Premises Equipment products,
which include faxmodems and other computer peripherals, as
well as basic, cordless and cellular phones, and other office
equipment in Israel and the surrounding countries. The company
has projected that it will provide at least half of the faxmodems
demanded by this market by the end of 1996. Bezeq-Bit estimates
that at least 30% of Israeli PC customers will include faxmodems
as part of their computer purchases during 1996. "We
are pleased to have established this new relationship with
Bezeq-Bit," said Frank Manning, President and CEO of
Zoom. "We expect the marketing strength and reputation
of Bezeq to be major assets in the marketing and support of
faxmodems in Israel and are pleased that Bezeq-Bit has chosen
Zoom as its faxmodem supplier. " Dany Ray, President
of Bezeq-Bit, said that he will build on the strong name and
reputation of Bezeq to achieve his company's goal of becoming
the market leader in home PC products in Israel. Bezeq-Bit
will supply and support Zoom products, fully approved by the
Israeli Ministry of Communications, through major PC distributors,
retail chains, and direct sales. Boxes and user manuals will
be translated into Hebrew. Zoom's participation in
Israel supplements its established presence in the international
marketplace. Zoom faxmodems are sold in over 5,000 retail
locations in North America and over 2,000 retail locations
in Europe and Japan. The company has also established distribution
channels in Argentina, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Hong Kong,
Iceland, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Republic
of South Africa, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore,
Thailand, and Turkey. "This new relationship
plays an important role in our plan to grow internationally,"
said Manning. "With the growth of the Internet, personal
computers, and telecommuting, we anticipate a continuing increase
in demand for state-of-the-art faxmodem products throughout
the world." Established in 1977, Zoom designs,
manufactures and markets a wide range of telecommunications
products that link people and their personal computers to
each other through the telephone network. Zoom's broad product
family includes internal, external, PC-Card, and pocket models
for PC-compatible and Macintosh computers. Some models include
full-duplex speakerphone, voice mail, caller ID, and voice-plus-data
capabilities. PC-Card models provide wireless fax and data
transmission when plugged into a cellular telephone.
