Zoom Expands to New Manufacturing Facility
Additional space will increase production capacity and efficiency

Boston, MA, August 27, 1996 - Zoom Telephonics, a leading producer of faxmodems, has moved its warehouse, production, and shipping operations to a new facility at 645 Summer Street in the Boston Harbor Industrial Park. Zoom occupies 77,428 square feet - about the area of a football field - on one floor of the two-story building, expanding production space by 88%.

The new facility is approximately 1 mile from company headquarters and includes 76 parking spaces. There are two loading docks on the south side of the building and one loading dock on the north side, allowing a smooth in-line production flow.

"We leased this new manufacturing space to enable us to increase our production capacity and improve efficiency", said Frank Manning, President of Zoom Telephonics. "Our headquarters will remain at 207 South Street in Boston. The nearby location of the new production facility will make it easy to travel between the two sites."

Prior to the move, Zoom manufactured its products in downtown Boston at 201 South Street, a six-story building totalling 41,000 square feet. Zoom owns both the 201 South Street property and the abutting 207 South Street building. The 207 South Street building houses Zoom's executive, engineering, sales, and financial departments.

Zoom moved its production and shipping to the Summer Street facility on August 5. The building at 201 South Street will be used to expand the research and development, engineering, technical support, and sales departments. Excess space will be leased.

According to Peter Kramer, Executive Vice President for Zoom, a significant percentage of the occupancy cost of the new facility will be offset by savings related to improved operational efficiency, reduced freight charges, reduced occupancy expense at other locations, and occupancy income from the rental of space at 201 South Street.
