Zoom Shipping New Zoom / MultiLine™ FaxModem
Eight Hot-Swappable Faxmodem
Modules in One Compact Desktop Unit
Boston, MA, Oct. 7, 1996 - Zoom Telephonics, a high-volume
manufacturer of faxmodems, has begun shipping the Zoom/MultiLine
FaxModem - a space-saving desktop solution for faxmodem and
voice/faxmodem applications requiring 4 to 8 ports.
The Zoom/MultiLine sets new standards of port density, flexibility,
and power efficiency. Its modular 8-port design enables it
to be easily reconfigured, serviced, or expanded.
Until now, many users have resorted to stacks of individual
modems that clutter their offices or they have installed costly
rack modems. In contrast, the MultiLine's convenient size
allows it to be placed anywhere in an office - on a desktop
or in an equipment closet - providing a handsome package that
is easy to install anywhere multiple modems are needed.
Each MultiLine can hold up to 8 independent, hot-swappable
V.34 33.6 Kbps faxmodem or V.32bis 14.4 Kbps voice/faxmodem
modules in a single attractive 1.8" x 7.8" x 10.8"
metal case. Modules feature Flash ROM to facilitate firmware
upgrades, and advanced ZoomGuard™ to prevent damage
from lightning, the primary cause of modem failure.
The MultiLine's hot-swappable plug-in faxmodem modules can
be quickly user-installed in any combination without affecting
other ports. The hot-swappability feature provides a convenience
unavailable with other multi-line products. For example, if
a faxmodem module requires service, only that module and not
the entire unit needs to be shipped back to the manufacturer.
"The MultiLine is being sold through value-added
resellers and dealers. It is ideal for modem pools, faxservers,
voice mail systems, and remote access servers," said
Terry Manning, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
"We have worked with a wide array of multi-port serial
cards, remote access devices, and software programs to assure
compatibility," said Manning. Each MultiLine
module is a Rockwell®-based serial faxmodem that includes
14.4 Kbps Class 1 fax, Caller ID, V.42, V.42bis, MNP®
2-5, MNP 10EC™, and NVRAM. Each module also includes
Configuration Control and Security Lock, which allow systems
administrators to lock-in the functions and settings they
want. The MultiLine's front panel features a reset button
and 3 status lights for each channel. The single power
supply included with each MultiLine eliminates the need for
eight separate supplies and multiple power strips, which minimizes
power cord clutter and simplifies installation. The Zoom/MultiLine
requires only 25W of power with all eight modules active.
The suggested retail pricing for the MultiLine is approximately
$275 per port for V.34 faxmodem modules and approximately
$225 per port for 14,400 bps voice/faxmodem modules.
