Zoom® Ships New ISDN Product
Zoom/ISDN Duo™ supports
data, fax, and voice over ISDN or analog lines
Boston, MA, February 24, 1997 - Zoom Telephonics, a
leading manufacturer of computer communications equipment,
is shipping its first ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
product, the Zoom/ISDN Duo for PC-compatible computers.
The Zoom/Duo combines an ISDN terminal adapter with
a V.34 faxmodem on one internal card to enable data, fax,
or voice communication over ISDN or traditional analog lines.
For data, the ISDN line can be used to communicate with other
ISDN or analog modems. However, unlike most ISDN products
that are data only, the Zoom/Duo has a jack to support a standard
telephone handset, which is included, for voice calls over
the ISDN or analog line. It provides fast data
rates of up to 128,000 bps by using MultiLink-PPP to combine
the two 64 Kbps ISDN B channels. With V.42bis compression,
speeds up to 460,800 bps can be achieved. The Duo
supports standard AT commands, so it works with virtually
any PC communications software. It includes a Plug and Play
compatible serial interface with 16550 UART and uses any one
of 7 interrupts (IRQs) for maximum compatibility with a wide
variety of system configurations. It requires only one PC
slot and one COM port. Zoom plans to ship a terminal adapter-only
product, the Zoom/TA, later this quarter. "The
Zoom/Duo and Zoom/TA are the first of a broad line of ISDN
products from Zoom," says Zoom's President and CEO Frank
Manning. "Additional products will continue to support
applications for Web browsing, video telephony, and remote
access to corporate LANs with feature-rich, user-friendly
products at competitive price points."
Both products make installation easy with EZ-ISDN support
for ordering and setup, Plug-and-Play installation, and a
built-in NT-1 for direct connection to your ISDN line. No
additional hardware is required. In addition, the Zoom/Duo
and TA feature flash memory for easy upgrades. Both products
include ZoomGuard, which provides lightning protection superior
to the varistor protection found on many similar products.
Lightning is the number one cause of modem failure. The Zoom/ISDN
Duo and Zoom/ISDN TA are backed by a 7-year warranty.
Zoom's ISDN products will be sold through computer retail
outlets, VARs, and distributors to VARs including Ingram Micro®,
MicroAge®, and Tech Data®. The estimated retail price
range of the Zoom/Duo will be between $299 and $349, and between
$199 and $229 for the Zoom/TA. Zoom Telephonics designs,
produces, and markets products that link people and their
personal computers through the world's largest network, the
international telephone network, and connected networks including
the Internet and corporate local area networks. Zoom products
are distributed worldwide. Zoom Telephonics is publicly traded
on NASDAQ (NASDAQ: ZOOM).
